Jeff Goodman, director and award-winning wildlife-Documentary cameraman is a long-standing supporter of earthdive and its objectives.
Jeff is currently leading a new series of courses aimed at improving the art of good underwater video production while at the same time realising the incredible wealth and diversity of our planet’s marine life.
The courses are presently being run in the Red Sea in May and November with Emperor Diving and will soon also be available in Cornwall in the UK.
A maximum of 10 students per courses will be able to learn from one of the best underwater cameramen in the industry and will need their own video camera and housing for filming and a laptop with associated software for editing.
“The courses are ideal for divers who are competent in the water. A good background knowledge of how their camera works is preferable but not essential. We’ll be looking at how to get the best out of their camera systems and exploring the techniques of observing and capturing wildlife behaviour with an end goal of producing a professional looking two-minute DVD,” explains Jeff.
“Video filming is only half of the story. Great footage can easily be ruined by bad editing. This course is a combination of knowing your camera, researching your subject, choosing a location, creating a story and taking good video while at the same time being aware of how everything will come together in the edit.”
Jeff has over 30 years’ experience in wildlife and underwater filming. Credits include the BBC, Channel 4, National Geographic, Discovery, Animal Planet and many others. He has twice been nominated for BAFTA Award Cameraman and won Montana Festival Best Series Director/Cameraman.
At the end of each course students will have the opportunity to stream their 2 minute video on the earthdive website along with a short article on where they have filmed and what they have seen thus contributing greatly to earthdive's unique database and global dive log.
