In its mission to outdo itself with its unique attractions, Dubai is opening a new theme park that will be completely under water. The city that is home to the largest building and largest hotel in the world will soon capitalize on the popularity of scuba-diving and snorkeling by opening the largest underwater tourism site in the world. The new theme park will be called Pearl of Dubai, the Daily Mail reports.

The five acre theme park will be location in the shallow waters off The World Islands and has been designed to look like an ancient lost city like Atlantis. It had been designed by teams that were involved in the Hollywood hits “Avatar” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

The park will be open to guests of all ages and will give them an opportunity to explore stunning underwater scenes through scuba diving or snorkeling.

Reef Worlds, a Los Angeles-based underwater tourism design company, recently announced the plans for the park. The company hoped the new theme park will help Dubai attract even more tourists from the $3 billion scuba diving and snorkeling market.

“The UAE has a unique tourism problem that we address. When one considers Dubai and the region, scuba diving and underwater exploration is not on the Top Ten list, and yet it is almost everywhere else in the world,” Dave Taylor, director of development for Reef Worlds, said according to the Daily Mail.

Reef Worlds isn’t just working with Dubai. The company also has plans to bring parks to places like the Philippines to give tourism a boost there as well
“The Reef Worlds brand is all about sustainability and the creation of new habitat while at the same time adding instant tourism revenue and excitement to waterfront resorts,” Taylor added. “We will work with carefully selected resort partners on unique underwater habitat projects that directly support our clients’ sustainability and revenue goals.”

It is not clear when the park will open in Dubai.
